Old friends, how I’ve missed you

It feels like an eternity since Charlie the Dog and I have been outside to do anything fun, this includes geocaching. Sunday was a perfect day for him and I to reunite our favorite pastimes, walking in the woods, and looking for hidden treasures. Still some snow on the ground made for excellent conditions and picture taking opportunities.

The weather and work have been so batshit crazy lately that I have had almost no free time to take my best friend out to play. Thankfully he does not hold it against me. We loaded up the car early in the morning and set the GPS machine for adventure. I know, that’s fucking lame, but true. We went to a local reserve and didn’t see another person all day. We wandered, he ran and jumped, we found stupid shit hidden in the woods, and had a fantastic day. I didn’t realize how long it had been. Being out there with Charlie was as close to a meditative state as I will ever find. Calmness, nothing hectic or rushed, no deadlines, no emergencies, overall quietness. So happy to finally have gotten out and done something active, outside, and with Charlie. I took a lot of pics, HERE are just a few.

Oh Telluride, I will move to you one day…

Telluride Mountain VillageWe have been back for a while but have not had a second to rest, let alone look at my pictures. In hindsight I am glad I made the trip to Telluride with the group. Wifey, Ed, and Mel would have had a blast without me. I am sure that my presence increased their good times tenfold. If I am wrong, I’ll never know it. I knew I had to drive Wifey to the airport Saturday morning. The decision was to park at short-term or long-term parking. I had a plane ticket, but things were just too busy at work. The 10-day forecast was actually pretty mild compared to the previous month. I decided last minute to go west. Glad I did. It was amazing. My favorite town in the US, during the perfect week of snow. Telluride had a huge snowstorm the first day we got there and that meant fresh Colorado powder all week. It’s my second favorite kind of fresh powder, next to Telluride from aboveColumbian.

I was able to find a few geocaches around the town, on the mountain, and spent an entire day just wandering aimless through the village and mountain following my GPS machine. Nothing makes a day of rest even more fun and restful than signing geocache logs!

We had great days on the slopes, great meals everyday, and I got a bit of needed rest. Yes I know, poor me. The cold weather here at home came back as soon as I did, and work has been unreal. It’s good, what I always want, but smack in the middle sucks. Before and after I always view “busy” with rose colored glasses.

Anyway, I finally had a chance to go through our pictures and process some. Nothing over the top fantastic, but they are pictures of Telluride, how could I go wrong? Clicky HERE

See Ya Forever

All we were missing was a small Asian boy

Can you believe this guy won't share a tree with Charlie?!

Charlie can’t believe this guy won’t share a tree with him?!?!

Another experience this weekend that makes it to the top of the memories list, brought to me solely because of Geocaching. Being Indiana Jones is pretty awesome, Steven Spielberg already showed us that. Yesterday Charlie the Dog, Josh, and I set out for another unbelievably fun day of adventuring. We drove up to Lebanon, PA for the sole purpose of finding a Geocache called Raiders of the Lost Cache. We have heard good things about this one for a long time now. It is the most favorited Geocache in the entire state of Pennsylvania.  We did over 6 miles of fairly grueling hiking, which means that Charlie did about 10 miles. The hide itself was in a cave of boulders. You either had to come down inside from the top, or crawl on your belly from underneath. This definitely classifies as one of the more adventurous things I have ever done. This statement is coming from a guy that once drove the length of Trail Gulch Road, just because my GPS machine told me to. Once inside, the entire “tomb” was decorated out like a scene from Raiders. Fake spider webs, skeletons, snakes, an actual Arc, the whole nine yards. It was completely worth the drive and the hike.

2013-11-09-Raiders-with-Josh-139After Josh and I had our fun inside the tomb it was time to pack up and exit. As I got to where I could see the light of day, all I saw was a patient little dog’s head waiting for me. It was so sweet. We thought it might be fun to get Charlie inside and see if he was good at spelunking. It took a bit of coercion, but we got him inside. 2013-11-09-Raiders-with-Josh-191Josh took some pics of two best friends hanging out inside a cave. What a blast we had. Yet another top of the list life experience I never would have had without Geocaching. Here are some pics in case you care.
